The High-Performance Electric Unicycle That Set the Bar for Off-Road EUC Performance

My Begode Extreme – Making History at Amped

I'm not sure whether to label this article a “review” or a “revisit,” because the Extreme has been a solid wheel in my stable for nearly two years. My relationship with the Begode Extreme began in the fall of 2023, when Amped Electric Games was chosen as the launch event for this wheel—and it made a serious impression! Riders from all over the US and abroad had the chance to ride, and Douglas Marshall even won a brand new wheel as the grand prize.

Out of the gate, there were some firmware issues—specifically when jumping the wheel. I found this out (the hard way!) at The Railyard Bike Park, when the original firmware spun the motor up to top speed in the air, resulting in a less-than-graceful landing. Luckily, Begode engineers were watching our Instagram Live and fixed the firmware within hours. That kind of rapid feedback loop has helped shape what the Extreme is today.

What Set the Begode Extreme Apart?

This was the first Begode wheel developed with serious input from off-road EUC legends Zac Darnell and Chance Heinz. Their goal: more power, a smaller diameter tire, and rugged durability to survive real mountain riding and aggressive stunts.

It was also one of the first Begode models to feature an IP rating and additional gaskets—finally solving the water ingress issues that plagued the T4. The new controller seals and bearing covers keep water out and keep you riding.

Unboxing and First Impressions

When my Begode Extreme arrived, two boxes actually arrived. Since the wheel was delivered by air they had to separately send the batteries and the wheel. This meant I had to so some additional assembly which you thankfully won't have to do when you receive yours. This is what it looked like before the batteries were installed.

I was seriously impressed with the build quality of this all-new model. Everything was very tightly installed, which I knew would lend to the improved water resistance. The wires going from the batteries into the upper area where the controller is housed had to go through a rubber gasket, which was perhaps the most difficult part of the assembly. You can see the holes in the photo below where the 4 battery wires pass into the upper compartment.

You'll notice the number "4" on the handle, this denotes the number in production which this wheel was made. I actually received 2 of these wheels, one was number "2" and the other was "4". I talked to Roger Hajali and apparently he received the "#1" wheel!

Once we got the batteries installed it was time for the maiden voyage! For the first ride we took the Begode Extreme out on the trails in Bentonville. I love riding EUC in Bentonville because there is such a mix of riding including streets, trails, and jumps. The Extreme handled all three with ease, and we even took it to the skatepark and taught some kids to ride it!
