Step onto the Future with the Begode Future!
As an avid golfer, I am used to selecting the proper club depending on the type of shot I’d like to hit. From the tee, I typically select a driver or long iron for greater distance. Around the green, I go for a pitching wedge or loft wedge for a high shot that stops fast. Near the hole, my trusty putter ensures short, stable shots.
Once I began riding an electric unicycle (EUC), I realized there are many parallels when choosing the right EUC for my trips. Just like in golf, having the right tool for the right situation makes all the difference. For long rides, I’d choose a larger wheel with extra battery capacity like the Begode Master Pro. For shorter, nimble trips, I’d grab a medium-sized wheel like the Begode Falcon. For quick errands around my neighborhood, I’d reach for a small, ultra-portable EUC—and that’s where the Begode Future comes in.
Begode Future: A Compact and Capable EUC
Design and Build
Weighing just 37 lbs, the Begode Future features a 14-inch tire that is 3.5 inches wide, offering a balance of stability and agility. Its foam side pads provide a blend of softness for comfort and rigidity to protect the wheel in case of drops or falls.
For added convenience, the Future includes a built-in handle along with a push on/off button for lifting, allowing the rider to disengage the motor when carrying it up or down stairs—without having to power it off completely. The unicycle’s modern and sleek aesthetics make it an appealing choice for riders who appreciate both form and function. Its lightweight build and compact size make it easy to transport and store.
Performance
With a range of approximately 12 miles and a top speed of 16 mph, the Begode Future is designed with safety and control in mind, making it an excellent option for new riders and casual commuters. While it may not match the high-speed capabilities of larger performance models, it delivers stability, maneuverability, and ease of use, making it a great companion for everyday urban riding and short-distance trips.
Durability: Tested at King of the Hammers
We recently held a training and racing event at King of the Hammers, one of the toughest off-road race venues in Johnson Valley, California. At our booth, we used both the Inmotion E20 and Begode Future as training models. Riders consistently favored the Future over the E20, citing its easier turning and more nimble feel.
Additionally, compared to the E20, the Future proved more durable, sustaining significantly less damage throughout rigorous testing. This reinforced its reliability for new riders looking for a long-lasting entry-level EUC.
Riding Experience & Handling
Riding the Begode Future feels surprisingly smooth for a smaller wheel. Its compact design makes it incredibly nimble, allowing riders to make quick turns with ease. The 14-inch tire provides a stable platform, and the 3.5-inch width gives enough grip for confident cornering. Acceleration is steady and controlled, making it a great choice for beginners who don’t want to be overwhelmed by a high-torque ride. While it may not be suited for rough terrain, it handles city streets, bike paths, and paved trails exceptionally well. For experienced riders, the Future offers a fun, zippy alternative to their larger, more powerful wheels—perfect for weaving through crowded areas or taking on short commutes.
Charging Time & Battery Efficiency
The Begode Future features a 42V system with a 375Wh battery, offering a modest range of approximately 12 miles per charge. One of its advantages is the relatively fast charging time, taking around 5 hours to fully recharge with the standard charger. This means you can quickly top up the battery during a lunch break or between rides. While the Future isn’t designed for all-day riding, it’s an excellent choice for those who need a quick, energy-efficient EUC for short commutes. Compared to other entry-level EUCs, its battery performance is on par, if not slightly better, thanks to its lightweight build and efficient power consumption.
Use Cases & Who This Wheel Is For
The Begode Future is ideal for a variety of riders. Beginners will appreciate its stable design and predictable acceleration, making it an excellent learning tool. Commuters who need a lightweight, easy-to-carry EUC will find its 37-pound frame convenient for bringing onto public transit or carrying up stairs. Enthusiasts who already own larger, high-performance wheels might consider the Future as a ‘last-mile’ solution or a compact travel companion. If you’re looking for a nimble, budget-friendly EUC that doesn’t sacrifice build quality, the Future is a smart choice.
Comparisons to Similar Models
In the world of entry-level EUCs, there are a few standout options that riders often compare. The Begode Future competes closely with the Inmotion V5F and King Song 14D, both of which offer similar range and top speeds. However, the Future edges out the competition in maneuverability due to its slightly wider tire and lighter build. When placed head-to-head with the Inmotion E20, the Future clearly comes out on top in terms of durability and ride feel, as our real-world testing at King of the Hammers showed.
That being said, if a built-in trolley handle is a must-have, the King Song 14D might be a better pick, as the Future lacks this feature. On the other hand, if affordability is your top priority, the Inmotion E20 is nearly half the price but sacrifices build quality. Ultimately, the Begode Future strikes a solid balance of price, durability, and performance for those looking to enter the EUC world with a reliable, easy-to-ride wheel.
Conclusion
The Begode Future is a great entry-level EUC that balances portability and performance. Its compact 14-inch design makes it ideal for new riders looking for a secure learning experience, as well as experienced enthusiasts wanting a smaller wheel for everyday use. While not built for extreme speeds or long distances, its approachable design and affordable price ($799 at the time of this post) make it a solid addition to any rider’s collection.
Whether you’re a seasoned rider with thousands of miles under your belt or just starting your journey into the world of electric unicycles, the Begode Future is worth considering.
